The First of Its Kind
Finally, Canadian tort and contract lawyers have a new resource to
consult on claims in negligence for pure economic loss. Written by
law professor Russell Brown, this book comprehensively deals with
this complex and often confusing area of Canadian law.
This is the first book devoted solely to examining Canadian case
authorities and the unique problems that arise from them. It also
introduces a new innovative macro-organizational structure for
understanding pure economic loss. In doing so, the book brings
new insight, explanations, and ways of looking at this complicated
subject area.
The duty of care analysis in Canadian law concerning pure
economic loss has become extraordinarily complex and in some
respects is not being stated or applied consistently at the Supreme
Court of Canada from case to case. Therefore, there is a real
need for a book devoted solely to examining the Canadian case
authorities and the unique problems that arise from them. This is
that book.

It’s Vegas, baby!
AIDSbeat, the annual benefit
concert for the Canadian Founda-
tion for Aids Research (CANFAR)
put on by the Toronto legal com-
munity, attracted hundreds of
party-going professionals to a Las
Vegas-themed event on Oct. 14 at
Kool Haus. It brought lawyers
together from dozens of different
firms for an evening filled with
glitter, rhinestones—and Elvis
impressions. A Battle of the Bands
took place, featuring lawyer bands
and their music.
Battle of the Bands winner: Notorious Roads
People’s Choice band winner: High Court of Soul

A ROCKIN’ GOOD TIME: Jake Bullen of Jake and the High Court of Soul goes the Sinatra route with a bit of Elvis the
Pelvis thrown in. The band was this year’s winner of the People’s Choice Award.
SHOW GIRL LOVE: Lawyer Luke Davies hits the
jackpot at Las Vegas-themed AIDSbeat 2011 when
he gets kissed by not just one, but two Vegas
showgirls —no wonder he’s smiling. ❤
GETTIN’ HITCHED: The AIDSbeat wedding chapel was a popular
spot. The captain presiding over the ceremony was lawyer Eric
Sadvari and the happy brides were Stephanie Yarmo (L) and
Paulina Tam.
