APPOINTMENTS
Igor Ellyn, senior partner of
Toronto-based Ellyn Law LLP, has
been appointed to the Panel of
International Commercial Arbitrators of the Canadian Chamber of
Commerce, which is a national
organization comprising of a network of over 300 chambers of
commerce and boards of trade,
representing 175,000 businesses
of all sizes in Canada.
Chris Taylor hasn’t been on a
stage for 15 years but he’s still a
regular performer in the enter-
tainment business.
The founder and lead singer of
Juno-nominated reggae band,
One, spent the early to mid-90s
driving around North America in
a van with nine other musicians.
When he decided to hang up his
microphone, he didn’t venture too
far afield.
That’s because the 1990 graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School of
York University spent his time on
the road and in the studio laying
the foundation for a career as an
entertainment lawyer.
“When I started in law school, I
didn’t even know there was such a
thing as a music lawyer,” he says.
One built up a huge follow-
ing, much of it among the uni-
versity and college crowd, lead-
ing to a Juno nomination for
reggae recording of the year for
its Smokin’ The Goats album,
“I was tired of living in a van
with nine other guys. You can’t pay
your rent with a Juno nomina-
tion... at some point, you have to
look at yourself in the mirror and
decide what you’re going to do
with your life long term,” he says.
