NS mental health court helps clients be heard

The docket is full at Nova Scotia’s first mental health court.
Since the court opened last November, almost 90 individuals
have been referred, said Judith
McPhee, executive director of
policy and information management with the Department of
Justice in Halifax.
Of the 88 referrals in effect by
May 3—six months after the
official opening of the mental
health court—29 clients are
participating in the process, 17
are currently in the assessment
stage, 32 were not eligible, seven
declined to take part and three
were discharged.
